The Economic and Social Council has 54 members, elected for three-year terms by the General Assembly. The term of office for each member expires on 31 December of the third year. The United Republic of Tanzania membership will expire on 31 December 2006. Tanzania has also been a member in the years 1966-69, 78-80, 94-96 and 2004-2006.
